Causes of Male Infertility
When asked to name the biggest causes of male infertility, GP’s listed smoking, excess alcohol consumption and stress. However, there is on-going debate about evidence suggesting that male fertility is decreasing markedly as a result of modern lifestyles as well as environmental factors.
Here are some of the facts:
- More than 2.5 million men in Britain may be suffering from fertility problems
- High rates of smoking, stress and drinking generally believed to be contributory factors
- Infertility affects at least 20-25% of couples who are of reproductive age
From a male perspective there are quite a few things that can go wrong. The list seems long but no-one’s going to suffer from all of these. It’s also important to remember that you need to focus on what can be done to change the situation and many things are within your control to change.
At The Natural Fertility Centre we see many men who have low sperm count, poor morphology or motility, offering nutritional supplements, herbs and/or acupuncture which may help to support the production of healthy sperm. This is important for those hoping to conceive naturally and those having ICSI or IVF.
