Infected semen can be a cause of infertility and is suggested by high numbers of ‘round cells’ in the semen analysis. Low grade infections such as Chlamydia, are much more common than you think so it is always worth getting tested.
If the man’s body is producing antibodies to his own sperm (“antisperm antibodies”) steroids may be used to desensitize the immune system. Nutrition and herbs should also be considered to support normal immune function. Intrauterine insemination with washed sperm may be used, but IVF with ICSI may be necessary if antisperm antibodies are present.
